Photamerica

Ok. One more day, mixing up all parts of the city plus some swamp. I have been wanting to hang with a good friend of friend for a long time and today was that day. Grant Ingram is a local videographer and photographer here in New Orelans (http://grantingram.com/) and we did breakfast near Lakeview (eggs ponchatrain are the bomb!). Grant TOURED HIS TOWN to me (a side project of photamerica where people get in the van and show me around their town while a video camera runs inside and out) showing me the lake, the 9th ward, biwater, merginy, french quarter, and all the way over the ferry to the west bank swamps jean laffite!!! Awesome day that started around 9am and went till dark! We made a very special interview with Mr. Lewis in the 9th ward who runs The house of dance and feathers. This amazing man is keeping the heritage of not only the 9th ward but of the black/indian/jewish/ mardi gras past intact. After Katrina we well know that the 9th ward (one side more than the other) was decimated and also that it is and continues to be the neglect of the cities funds in recovery (mind you katrina was 7 years ago!). You really have to love your city, your town, your street, your area, and everything to build back and continue on after everything was taken from you with little help. But through Mr. Lewis’ determination to not let this history wash away people have come to help him. He has an amazing collection and of course stories of the 9th ward and Mardi Gras! We then cruised the rest of the strip and Grant gave me his good knowledge of the French, the spanish, the english, and unlike any other city of New Orleans. We caught an awesome ferry ride over to the west end and hit down into the swamp and jean laffites before heading back over. Had dinner again with Rachel and stayed the night to head out for Baton Rouge in the morning! Thanks Grant for everything, you are a badass!
