DAY 5! The BIG island!

Posted on: January 12th, 2012 by joosy 3 Comments

Slept on the floor of the airport last night after interviewing Danny from budget car rental. Slept three hours and landed on the big island at 6am. As I did in Oahu, I rented a car and went to see the sunrise! Spectacular!!! Debra at the car rental gave me a map and told me local spots to hit upon driving from Hilo on the east to kona on the west. On the northern rim I saw honomu, umauma, laupahoehoe, waipio valley, kappau, and finally kona. This island has 7 different microclimates. I saw everything from tropical ( rained 5 times on me for 5 min), coast, desert, mountain, to strang alien lands that were covered in lava explosions! Met bob painting high on a mountain, another documentarian doing work on organic food, and lastly staying with Kat and Dane in kona. These amazing kids from the uk and Texas showed me great surf and gave me a clean bed for the night! Sadly I know this is going to already break my heart that I have to meet so many wonderful people and then say goodbye soon after! Thus is the project! To move and capture modern America as it is happening, changing, and hopefully positively progressing. Great conversations with everyone and really has my noodle going too. So far I know one thing, good people make the world go round. We are all in this life, this America, this world together. Xxx

  3. Josh, honey, I need to offer an opinion. Why not think of meeting/leaving and your heart in this way? Each person you meet, each experience you have with them incrementally makes your heart stronger, makes your ability to feel for America stronger, and fleshes out the Photamerica mission. And with each person you meet and each experience you have, you are personally connecting all of those together to make America stronger.
